This year, 2009, Sherry celebrates her 30th year in Law Enforcement this July, and also begins her 41st year showing and training dogs. Sherry began her love affair with animals as a small child when visiting her grandparents' farm in northern Indiana. While she loves and cares for all animals she had a special bond to man's best friend, her beloved dogs. Sherry shares her home in Indianapolis with her Dobermans and Miniature Pinschers. She has owned and shown several breeds to include rescuing a few mixed breeds, but her true love is with the Doberman Pinscher. She became an avid student of the breed in 1974 when she purchased her first Doberman.
Sherry is a professional dog handle & trainer; she has competed, shown and traveled the world with her dogs. She is a past president of the Doberman Pinscher Club of Indiana, and a past board member of the National Doberman Pinscher Club of America. She belongs to several dog associated clubs in the Central Indiana area as well as several national organizations. Sherry chaired the Event Subcommittee for the Centennial of the Doberman Pinscher in the United States, held in Topeka, KS October 2008. This Celebration honored the WWII War Dog Handlers and their contribution to our country. Dpca.org/faithful
Like most people in the dog world Sherry has noticed over the last several years a movement by animal activists to take away the rights of pet owners, as well as create problems for the entire agriculture industry in Indiana and across the country. She has been active in defeating local ordinances that remove the rights of pet owners, while she supports responsible pet ownership. She is a firm believer that we should punish "the deed not the breed", she also is active in fighting breed specific ordinances and/or legislative actions.
Responsible breeders and owners truly care about the health and welfare of their animals, and they are just as upset when they learn of animals being mistreated by substandard living conditions. Sherry, along with the board and members of ICAW vow to preserve and protect the animals within Indiana and their owners.
